DESCRIPTION:Division of Cancer Sciences (DCS) and Manchester Breast Centr
e (MBC) Joint Seminar\nDr Toni Celia-Terrassa\nCancer Cell States & Meta
stasis Immunity Lab at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute\, Barcelo
na\, Spain\nTitle: LCOR implications in breast cancer immunity and thera
 peutic opportunities.\nHost: Bruno Simões\nDate: Monday 19th October 202
 6\nTime: 2pm\nVenue: Oglesby Cancer Research Building\, 555 Wilmslow Rd\
 , Manchester M20 4GJ\n\nTONI CELIÀ-TERRASSA\, PHD.\nGroup Leader of the
Cancer Cell States & Metastasis Immunity Lab at the Hospital del Mar Res
earch Institute (HMRI). His scientific career is driven by a central obj
ective: to understand how cancer cell-state plasticity and immune survei
llance shape breast cancer metastasis\, and how these principles can be
therapeutically exploited.\nHe obtained his PhD in 2012 at the IBMB-CSIC
/ University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Timothy Thomson\
, where his doctoral work provided paradigm-shifting insights into epith
elial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plasticity\, revealing how embryon
ic stem cell–like programs and their reversion govern metastatic compete
nce and colonization. He then pursued postdoctoral training (2012–2017)
at Princeton University in the laboratory of Dr. Yibin Kang\, a world le
ader in breast cancer metastasis research. During more than five years a
t Princeton\, he specialized in mammary stem cell programs driving metas
tasis and uncovered mechanisms by which normal and malignant stem cells
evade immune surveillance\, elucidating the spatiotemporal dynamics of E
MT–MET transitions within the metastatic microenvironment.\nSince establ
ishing his independent group in 2018\, the lab integrates cancer cell-st
ate dynamics\, stem cell biology\, and tumor immunology to develop innov
ative immunotherapeutic and immunopreventive strategies. The group has c
ontributed key conceptual advances\, including the identification of imm
une-evasive cancer stem cell states\, the distinctive immunology of micr
ometastasis\, and the demonstration that mRNA-based therapies can be use
d to therapeutically modulate cancer cell states.\nhttps://celiaterrassa
