DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Professor Desmond J. Higham (University of Edinburg
h)\n\nAbstract: Generalized friendship paradoxes occur when\, on average
\, our friends have more of some attribute than us. These paradoxes are
relevant to many aspects of human interaction\, notably in social scien
ce and epidemiology. I will present some new theoretical results concern
ing the inevitability of a network centrality paradox arising\, using a
linear algebra perspective. I will also point out some open questions.\n

 isco\, University of Edinburgh
