This workshop\, Regulating the Digital Society: UK and EU Per spectives\, seeks to bring together scholars and practitioners to examin e the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape across Europe and explore th e nature and implications of the different governance models that are em erging. Within the European Union we see an increasing focus on designin g and adopting a more comprehensive ‘horizontal’ framework of digital re gulation — ranging from the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act to strengthened GDPR enforcement and emerging AI governance mechanisms. By contrast\, the United Kingdom in the post?Brexit environment has shi fted to a more flexible and ‘light touch’ framework that is designed to promote innovation and relies on sectoral regulators to tackle specific evidence-based harms. Understanding the impact of these divergent trajec tories on the economic\, social and political performance of these natio ns\, and their longer-term implications for citizen rights and the role of the state in governing digital platforms and data practices is an inc reasingly important and timely topic for investigation.\n\nThis workshop invites papers that explore these themes from theoretical\, empirical\, and particularly comparative perspectives. Topics may include (but are not limited to):\n-Divergent models of digital governance and regulatory design in the UK and EU\n-Sustainability\, infrastructure\, and the env ironmental footprint of digital technologies\n-Approaches to evaluating regulatory effectiveness\, enforcement\, and policy impact across jurisd ictions\n-Public attitudes\, trust\, and legitimacy in relation to digit al regulation\n-Digital identity\, verification\, and age assurance syst ems\, and their implications for rights and inclusion\n-Information inte grity\, foreign interference\, and the regulation of elections and democ ratic processes\n-Platform governance and accountability\, including con tent moderation and systemic risk management\n-Public sector digitalisat ion\, automated decision-making\, and the governance of state use of dat a and AI\n-Regulation of AI systems and general-purpose technologies\, i ncluding risk\, accountability\, and oversight\n-Digital literacy and ca pability-building as complements to formal regulation\n-Digital markets\ , competition\, and consumer protection\, including gatekeeping and mark et power\n-Transparency and accountability in political microtargeting a nd online behavioural advertising\n\nSpaces are limited.
