SUMMARY:Upland Fires and Air Quality

DESCRIPTION:How do upland fires affect air quality? Join us to hear findi
ngs from FireUp and discover the Peak Fire Reporter app. \n\nUpland fire
s are an increasing concern in the Peak District due to their impacts on
air quality\, public health and ecosystems. Climate change is expected
to increase the risk of more frequent and intense fire events\, making i
t important to understand their causes and impacts. Join us for a free
online talk exploring how a network of air quality sensors across the P
eak District is helping us better understand the impacts of upland fires
on local air quality. This event is open to everyone\, including local
residents and anyone with an interest in the Peak District\, air qualit
y and fires. It is led by researchers from the University of Sheffield\,
Sheffield Hallam University\, the University of Manchester and the Univ
ersity of Nottingham. The talk will introduce the FireUp sensor network
\, which uses low-cost sensors across the Peak District to measure air p
ollution. We will share key findings from the project\, discuss what we
have learned about air quality in the region\, and explain how air pollu
tion episodes can be linked to fire events. We will also introduce the
Peak Fire Reporter app\, a new tool designed to improve the recording of
fires in the Peak District\, including both wildfires and controlled bu
rns. The app enables members of the public to report fire events\, helpi
ng to improve our understanding of when and where fires occur\, as well
as their characteristics and impacts. There will be opportunities to as
k questions\, provide feedback on the network and app\, and hear about f
uture research and opportunities to get involved. During the event\, we
will: Present findings from the FireUp air quality sensor network Expl
ain how low-cost sensors can be used to monitor air quality Demonstrate
the Peak Fire Reporter app and how you can get involved Discuss future p
lans for the project and opportunities for public participation Answer q
