In recent years, there has been an increased interest in the use of playful approaches in higher education. This session will present a model for Playful Learning as a pedagogic approach and philosophy of learning and teaching.
Areas covered will include:
- The importance of play in adulthood and differences from childhood play
- Background to Playful Learning and emergence of the field
- Definition and rationale for Playful Learning in Higher Education
- Signature pedagogy of playful learning
- Examples of playful learning in practice
Delegates will leave the session with a good understanding of:
- What is meant by ‘Playful Learning’ and why and the benefits it offers as a pedagogic approach.
- A theoretical model for a signature pedagogy of Playful Learning.
- Different ways in which playful approaches can be used in higher education.
