Division of Psychology & Mental Health are delighted to welcome Dr Carmen Valiente (Complutense University of Madrid) who will be presenting her guest seminar 'Healing effects of well-being: results and description of a positive psychology intervention for people with schizophrenia' at the University on Thursday, 31 October from 12.30pm - 4.00pm.
The seminar will explain theoretical background and the construction process of the intervention manual.
Results of the Randomized Control Trial will be shown which indicate that the intervention protocol was acceptable and feasible. In addition, the pre-post results of the dimensions of well-being and symptomatology for the experimental, as well as for the control condition will be presented.
The intervention protocol combined positive psychology and acceptance and commitment interventions, since both perspectives have overlapping and complementary approaches and aim to promote human flourishing and positive change (Kashdan & Ciarrochi, 2013). General intervention will be described as well as the procedures of each module (i.e. Emotions, Self-acceptance and Values and purpose).
Limitations and strengths of the intervention are under discussion.
