DESCRIPTION:Join us for this seminar by Alex Browning (Melbourne as part 
 of the Maths in the Life Sciences seminar series (and the online North W
 est Seminar Series in Mathematical Biology and Data Sciences in collabor
 ation with Liverpool Universities). \n\nTitle: \nIdentifiability of Stoc
 hastic and Spatial Models in Mathematical Biology\n\nAbstract:\nEffectiv
 e application of mathematical models to interpret biological data and ma
 ke accurate predictions often requires that model parameters are identif
 iable. Requisite to identifiability from a finite amount of noisy data i
 s that model parameters are first structurally identifiable: a mathemati
 cal question that establishes whether multiple parameter values may give
  rise to indistinguishable model outputs. Approaches to assess structura
 l identifiability of deterministic ordinary differential equation models
  are well-established\, however tools for the assessment of the increasi
 ngly relevant stochastic and spatial models remain in their infancy. \n\
 nI provide in this talk an introduction to structural identifiability\, 
 before presenting new frameworks for the assessment of stochastic and pa
 rtial differential equations. Importantly\, I discuss the relevance of o
 ur methodology to model selection\, and more the practical and aptly nam
 ed practical identifiability of parameters in the context of experimenta
 l data. Finally\, I conclude with a brief discussion of future research 
 directions and remaining open questions.\n\nThe talk will be also be str
