DESCRIPTION:Did you know that data from major social surveys such as the 
 British Social Attitudes survey\, the Labour Force Survey and the Health
  Survey for England can be accessed for research and teaching?\n\nThese 
 UK surveys provide a rich source of data from representative samples on 
 important social and economic topics including work\, family life\, heal
 th\, and social and political attitudes. Our collection includes surveys
  from the National Centre for Social Research\, Office for National Stat
 istics and other producers. In most cases\, you can simply download the 
 data once registered with the UK Data Service.\n\nThis free introductory
  workshop is intended for anyone who wants to learn about survey data av
 ailable from the UK Data Service.\n\nThe session will cover:\n\nthe UK d
 atasets available from the UK Data Service\nkey features of survey data 
 with examples from commonly used surveys\nhow to access the data and get
  further help\nThe workshop will consist of a 30 minute presentation\, f
 ollowed by a practical demonstration of the facilities to find data and 
 a further 20 minutes for questions.\n\nPresenters:\n\nPlacide Abasabanye
 \, UK Data Service. Placide is a Research Associate at the UK Data Servi
 ce with a PhD in Economics. He has ten years of research experience usin
 g survey and census data\, alongside eight years of teaching experience 
 at the Universities of Manchester and Lille (France). His expertise span
 s microdata and macrodata analysis\, large dataset processing\, and econ
 ometrics. He particularly enjoys helping learners build confidence\, dev
 elop critical thinking\, and gain practical data skills they can apply i
 n their professional work and studies.\n\nAlle Bloom\, UK Data Service. 
 Alle is a Research Associate with the UK Data Service at the University 
 of Manchester\, providing support and training to researchers in accessi
 ng\, understanding\, and using social science data. Her previous project
 s include developing training resources for undergraduate and postgradua
 te students\, creating interactive learning modules on different data ty
 pes\, and collaborating with international data providers to improve dat
 a discovery.\n\nLevel: Introductory\nExperience/knowledge required: None
