DESCRIPTION:Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health Online Semin
ar Series\n\nWe are pleased to invite you to the first COEH Seminar of t
 he semester! \n\nTuesday October 13th 2026 at 4:00-5:00 PM (BST)\n\nMatt
Gittins will present on: \nThe Exposome Project for Health and Occupati
onal Research (EPHOR): Understanding how characteristics of working-life
environmental exposures can influence a Health Intervention effect. \n\
nPlease register for the event online. You will be sent joining details
after registration. \n\nAbstract: Exposures in the workplace contribute
to many non-communicable diseases (NCDs)\, ensuring a healthy work envir
onment is a strategic goal for the European Commission\, national govern
ments\, and businesses. A primary goal is therefore to better understand
the heath impact of workplace exposure interventions with respect to NC
 Ds\, whilst under complex working-life exposures\, demographic changes (
e.g. aging workforce) and the rapidly changing nature of work (i.e. the
working life exposome). As part of a wider investigation into workplace
exposures\, we have attempted to understand how changing characteristic
s of an individual’s exposure profile could change a typical health inte
rvention effect. To do this we have developed a simulation study based o
n a real-world scenario in which we manipulate the characteristics of th
e exposures received. We then applied a series of common occupational he
alth interventions to understand how the characteristics of the exposure
are important. In this talk I will outline some of the results of our p
roposed simulated exposure scenarios\, the health interventions we impos
ed\, and the effect they had on a simulated health outcome. \n\nBio: D
r Matthew Gittins is a Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics at the Universit
y of Manchester's Centre for Biostatistics within the Division of Popula
tion Health\, Health Services Research and Primary Care.\n
