DESCRIPTION:Join Creative Manchester for an informal research cafe and ex
hibition viewing of Sarah Lightman’s Biblical Women.\n\nAs part of the C
entre for Biblical Studies’ CIDRAL-funded programme of events entitled E
ncountering Biblical Bodies\, we are pleased to host works from artist S
arah Lightman’s Biblical Domestic and Menstrual Hystery series in the Sa
muel Alexander Glass Corridor.\n\nIn these paintings\, biblical heroines
trade halos for housework and divine serenity for the messy reality of
ageing bodies\, menopause\, and domestic labour. Working primarily in vi
brant watercolours\, Lightman reimagines figures like Judith\, Mary\, an
d Eve battling hot flushes\, cluttered kitchens\, and midlife. Rooted in
the feminist Jewish tradition of midrash\, these works fill in the bibl
ical silences: the thoughts\, struggles\, and bodily truths left out of
the male-dominated canon. With wit\, irreverence\, and deep empathy\, Li
ghtman asks what happens when we stop hiding ageing bodies and start pai
nting the parts we were never told.\n\nThis event is an opportunity to v
iew the exhibition and to hear Sarah Lightman in conversation with membe
rs of The University of Manchester’s Centre for Biblical Studies and vis
 iting speaker Dr Dawn Llewellyn (Chester).\n\nAgenda:\n4:30pm - 5:00pm -
  Exhibition viewing and refreshments.\n5:00pm - 6:00pm - Panel discussio
n - Sarah Lightman in conversation with Dawn Llewellyn (University of Ch
ester)\, Siobhan Jolley (The University of Manchester)\nand Holly Morse

 d networking.
