DESCRIPTION:Join the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and the 
 Global Development Institute jointly hosted seminar\, on Africa’s Innova
 tion Pathways\, delivered by Simon Visiting Professor Erika Kraemer-Mbul
 a (University of Johannesburg).\n\nAfrica’s Innovation Pathways: Evoluti
 onary Economics\, opportunities\, and policy choices\n\nThe seminar will
  provide an overview of evolutionary economics interpreted through the l
 ens of Africa’s innovation realities - how learning\, routines\, institu
 tions and power\, shape development trajectories.  The seminar will disc
 uss emerging windows of opportunity in the digital and green transitions
  and the informal economy\, and conclude with policy reflections for mor
 e inclusive and transformative innovation systems.\n\nDiscussant: Khalid
  Nadvi (Professor of International Development\, Global Development Inst
 itute).\nChair: Aarti Krishnan (Manchester Institute of Innovation Resea
 rch)\n\nErika is a Professor of Economics and is currently the Chair hol
 der of the DSI/NRF Trilateral Research Chair in Transformative Innovatio
 n\, the 4IR & Sustainable Development\, the Fourth Industrial Revolution
  and Sustainable Development\, based at the College of Business and Econ
 omics (University of Johannesburg) and in partnership with ACTS and SPRU
 . Her research unit at the University of Johannesburg is formed by a dyn
 amic team of national and international researchers that engages in cutt
 ing-edge research\; builds the capacity of younger scholars to help deve
 lop the next generation of African thinkers leading transformative chang
 e\; and engages with policy makers\, key stakeholders and research partn
 ers\, to influence policy change. Trained as an Economist\, she holds a 
 Masters in Science and Technology Policy by the Science and Policy Resea
 rch Unit (University of Sussex)\, and a doctorate in Development Studies
  from the University of Oxford.\n\nSeminar Details:\n\nRefreshments will
