Title: Higher group cohomology and PSL(2,q)
Abstract: Given a finite group G acting irreducibly on a vector space V, the first cohomology group H1(G,V) corresponds to conjugacy classes of complements to V in the semidirect product V \rtimes G and H2(G,V) to equivalence classes of group extensions of G by V. A little is known about the size of H1 in various cases, but what about H2 or higher? In this talk, we give a brief overview of some bounds for the dimension of cohomology for groups of Lie type, along with a new general result and some results about the cohomology of PSL(2,q).
