DESCRIPTION:Leadership\, innovation and policy in the age of uncertainty\
 n\nThis talk explores how Arup - a global professional services firm wit
 h over 18\,000 members - applies foresight\, research\, and innovation t
 o explore\, anticipate\, and shape the future. The talk will explore the
  core philosophy behind Arup's practice\, how it relates to the current 
 Strategy of the firm\, and how it is used to help leaders and decision m
 akers to manage uncertainty in a fast-moving world. There will be a focu
 s on implications on the future of science\, technology\, and innovation
 \, while providing practical insights for on how we can collectively thi
 nk and act for the long-term.\n\nDiscussants: Oishee Kundu (Cardiff Univ
 ersity)\; Nick Matthews (UK Department for Transport)\; and Jakob Edler 
 (Fraunhofer Institute of Systems and Innovation Research and Manchester

  Manchester)\n\nSpeaker Bio:\n\nJosef Hargrave is the Director of Arup U
 niversity (AU). The university bring together expertise in foresight\, r
 esearch\, innovation\, skills\, learning\, knowledge\, information\, and
  heritage\; not as separate functions\, but as an integrated ecosystem t
 hat enables Arup and its members to see further\, design better\, and cr
 eate lasting impact. Josef has a background in innovation management\, c
 orporate strategy\, and foresight. He is an award-winning consultant\, m
 anager\, leader\, and facilitator who has delivered projects and program
 mes in over 20 countries and across a diverse set of businesses\, sector
 s\, and markets. Prior to his role as Director of Arup University\, Jose
 f led Arup’s Foresight and Research capabilities\, delivering trends res
 earch\, scenario planning\, and visioning work for internal and external
  clients\, and managing Arup’s Global Research Programme\, including inv
 estment allocation\, strategic direction\, and research partnerships. Ou
 tside of Arup\, Josef is an Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins\
 , a member of the World Economic Forum Global Foresight Network (Geneva)
 \, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Manchester Institute of Inn
 ovation Research. Josef is an AMBS alum\, completing an MSc in Science a
 nd Technology Policy and Management in 2006.\n\n\nSeminar Details:\n\nTh
 is seminar forms part of the activities celebrating the 10-year annivers
 ary of the Science\, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) PhD program
 me.\n\nThe Manchester Institute of Innovation Research runs a series of 
 regular seminars given by visiting speakers to Manchester. These seminar
 s are open to anybody who is interested in science\, technology and inno
