DESCRIPTION:Erik Stam\, Professor of Strategy\, Organization and Entrepre
 neurship\, Utrecht University\, the Netherlands will be discussing entre
 preneurial ecosystems in Africa.\n\nProductive entrepreneurship is highl
 y needed for economic growth and development in Africa. For this to happ
 en\, the conditions for productive entrepreneurship need to be improved.
  However\, data on the conditions for productive entrepreneurship in the
  African continent are scarce\, which makes it very difficult to improve
  these conditions and interventions in a context-specific way. We tackle
  this challenge and source data from various public\, private\, global\,
  and African sources. We use an entrepreneurial ecosystem framework to s
 elect\, make sense of\, and integrate this data. We have created an exte
 nsive dataset of 21 empirical indicators to measure seven dimensions of 
 national entrepreneurial ecosystems in Africa. With this data we aim to 
 facilitate large-scale research on entrepreneurial ecosystems and collec
 tive learning for improving entrepreneurial ecosystems in Africa.\n\n\n\
 nAbout Erik Stam: \nErik Stam is Full Professor of Strategy\, Organizati
 on and Entrepreneurship\, and academic director of the Center for Entrep
 reneurship at Utrecht University. He is Distinguished University Scholar
  at the American University in Cairo\, and on the advisory boards of Pol
 imi School of Management (Politecnico di Milano) and the Utrecht Univers
 ity Centre for Complex Systems Studies. He is editor of the leading entr
 epreneurship journals Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice\, Small Busin
 ess Economics and Foundations and Trends in Entrepreneurship.\n\n\nHe wa
 s Dean of the Utrecht University School of Economics and was Extraordina
 ry Professor\, and scientific director of the Allan Gray Centre for Afri
 ca Entrepreneurship\, at Stellenbosch University. He has worked at the U
 niversity of Cambridge and the Netherlands Scientific Council for Govern
 ment Policy (WRR). He has been visiting professor or scholar at institut
 es including the Max Planck Institute of Economics (Jena\, Germany)\, Un
 iversity of Oxford\, IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca\, Hitotsubash
 i University\, Indiana University at Bloomington\, University of South C
 arolina\, Carnegie Mellon University\, Tel Aviv University and Zhejiang 
 University.\n\n\nHe is a leading scholar on entrepreneurial ecosystems. 
 Next to his scientific work he is often consulted by governments\, at th
 e local\, regional\, national\, and international level (European Commis
 sion\, OECD\, G20\, WIPO\, World Bank)\, and by start-ups\, investors an
 d corporates on innovation and entrepreneurship.\n\nSeminar Details:\n\n
