DESCRIPTION:Join Creative Manchester and Jodrell Bank for an evening that
moves between science\, art and philosophy to ponder what it means to i
magine the universe when what we know is only ever partial. \n\nReflec
ting on Cosmic Titans – an exhibition of sculpture\, installation and ph
otographic work created through collaborations between contemporary arti
sts and leading researchers in quantum physics – the evening brings toge
ther leading voices in science and contemporary art\, in a conversation
hosted by historian and broadcaster Professor David Olusoga OBE. \n\nJ
oining him are Professor Silke Weinfurtner\, quantum physicist at the Un
iversity of Manchester and co-founder of ARTlab\; curator and astrophysi
cist Dr Ulrike Kuchner and acclaimed artist Conrad Shawcross RA whose wo
rk is featured within the exhibition. \n\nTogether they reflect on Cosm
ic Titans\, a major touring exhibition created through collaboration bet
ween artists and quantum physicists. From black holes to dark matter\, u
ncertainty and the edges of the observable universe\, the exhibition inv
ites audiences to encounter the cosmos in new ways. \n\nSet within the a
ward-winning First Light Pavilion\, the event takes place in a cultural
landscape shaped by deep scientific inquiry and creative experimentation
. From pioneering radio astronomy to major contemporary cultural program
mes\, Jodrell Bank has become a rare space where disciplines don’t simpl
y coexist but actively reshape one another. \n\nThe evening will conclud
e with a specially curated DJ set from artist and composer Matthew Woodh
am\, whose work Superdecision features within the exhibition. Taking pla
ce in the Meridian Hall\, the performance offers an immersive response t
o the themes of Cosmic Titans\, inviting you to engage with the exhibiti
on in an entirely new way… \n\nAs part of the evening\, guests can also
enjoy special after-hours access to the spectacular Cosmic Titans exhibi
tion (ARTLab Nottingham\, Lakeside Arts)\, bringing the topics of the di
scussion to life through striking installations.
