DESCRIPTION:This free webinar will introduce the audience to satellite im
agery data and their potential application for survey and quantitative s
ocial research.\n\nAdvances in remote sensing and artificial intelligenc
e are making satellite imagery increasingly accessible for social scienc
e\, public health and policy research. Imagery-derived datasets can prov
ide measures of urban development\, environmental conditions\, pollution
\, prosperity and wellbeing across space and over time. Combined with su
rvey and administrative sources these data can support a wide range of a
nalytical applications.\n\nThe webinar will describe satellite imagery d
ata\, present a real life case study\, and discuss availability and cond
itions of access. No prior technical knowledge of satellite data will be
required.\n\nThe guest presenter will be Dr Shaonlee Patranabis. Shaonl
ee is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Imago\, School of Environmen
tal Sciences\, University of Liverpool.\n\nThe webinar will be facilitat
ed by Dr Pierre Walthéry. Pierre is a Research Associate in the Training
and User Support team of the UK Data Service. He has published research
about gender\, flexible working and working time and currently leads on
data linkage training at the UK Data Service.
