DESCRIPTION:Are you keen to engage policymakers with your research findin
 gs?  Academics from The University of Manchester (including ECRs) are in
 vited to join Policy@Manchester for a full day\, in-person workshop on e
 ngaging with policymakers.\n\nFacilitated by the Institute for Governmen
 t [instituteforgovernment.org.uk] this session will demystify government
  and explain how to engage successfully with policymakers. Participants 
 will learn how government and policymaking work\, explore routes to poli
 cy engagement and practise communicating with policymakers. It will comb
 ine interactive presentations with activities that allow participants to
  apply learning directly to their own research areas.\n\nThis workshop i
 s suitable for researchers of all levels\, and no previous experience of
  policy engagement is necessary.\n\nParticipants will:\n- Gain a compreh
 ensive understanding of the UK government landscape and its components\n
 - Learn how academic research is used in policy making\n- Learn practica
 l tips for engaging with parliament\, the civil service\, devolved and l
 ocal government and intermediary organisation\n- Explore the characteris
 tics and constraints of different policy audiences\, and the considerati
 ons for communicating with them effectively\n- Discuss how to build thei
 r profiles as a researcher and use online tools to enhance their work\n-
  Practise pitching their research to a non-expert audience and get feedb
 ack for development\n\nThis session is open to academics working at The 
 University of Manchester\, including ECRs. To register please email poli
