DESCRIPTION:Title: When is complete reducibility inherited?\nAbstract: A
subgroup X of G = GL(V) is said to be G-cr if X acts completely reducibl
y on V. In the 1990s\, Serre generalized this to subgroups of an arbitra
ry connected reductive algebraic group G\, a concept that has generated
a lot of interest since. I will present joint work with Martin Liebeck (
Imperial) and Alastair Litterick (Essex) on the following fundamental qu
 estions: Let X < H < G with X and H connected. Does X being H-cr imply i
 t is G-cr? Does X being G-cr imply it is H-cr?
