DESCRIPTION:The Manchester International Law Centre (MILC) is delighted t
 o invite you to the first event in our International Human Rights Law (I
 HRL) Guest Speaker Series.\nAs part of this series\, we welcome leading 
 human rights practitioners and experts for short online conversations wi
 th students. Speakers reflect on their professional journeys and engage 
 with a substantive human rights issue to which they are particularly com
 mitted or currently working on\, followed by an opportunity for question
 s and discussion.\n\nOur first guest is Izza Leghtas\, Human Rights Offi
 cer at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in B
 angkok. Her work focuses on the human rights of migrants in the Asia-Pac
 ific region\, including labour migration\, the rights of migrants in vul
 nerable situations\, and the development of human rights-based narrative
 s on migration. Prior to joining OHCHR in 2023\, she worked in research 
 and advocacy roles at Refugees International\, Human Rights Watch\, and 
 Amnesty International.\n\nIn this session\, Izza will discuss current OH
 CHR projects in the Asia-Pacific region\, with particular focus on devel
 oping human rights-based narratives on migration. She will reflect on th
 e role of storytelling and public engagement in shaping migration discou
 rse\, including insights from the upcoming launch in Kuala Lumpur of a n
 ew series of Dari Dapur\, an initiative bringing migrant and refugee com
 munities in Malaysia together around food.\nAll are warmly welcome. To r
