Abstract:
Given a class of geometric objects, there are two recurring problems in classical algebraic geometry: describing the symmetries of these objects and classifying said objects according to some criterion/equivalence relation. Both of these questions have easy intuitive answers when it comes to individual triangles, but they become very tricky when we start considering families of triangles. This talk aims to be an heuristic introduction into a very modern branch of algebraic geometry which has rich connections with representation theory, topology and number theory.
