DESCRIPTION:How can a journey change the way an architect thinks\, lives
and designs? In 1975\, British architect David Lea travelled to China. A
n early advocate of environmentally responsible architecture\, Lea retur
ned from the visit with experiences and ideas that would leave a lasting
impression on his life and work.\n\nDrawing on Lea's remarkable photogr
aphs of China in the 1970s\, alongside images of his later architectural
projects\, both built and unbuilt\, Adam Voelcker explores the connecti
ons between this journey and Lea's evolving approach to architecture and
everyday living. The talk offers a glimpse into China at a time of prof
ound political and social change.\n\nThere will be an audience Q&A after
the presentation.\n\nTickets are free and everyone is welcome.\n\nAbout
the speaker\nAdam Voelcker is a retired architect and writer living in
north Wales\, where he moved in 1979 to join David Lea. In 1982\, he set
up his own practice with his wife and spent over 30 years working prima
rily on old buildings\, including many important churches. He has writte
n books about architects in north Wales (Herbert Luck North\, Sidney Col
wyn Foulkes and David Lea) and is also a co-author of the Gwynedd volume
in the Pevsner/Buildings of Wales series.
