DESCRIPTION:Please come and join us Tuesday November 17th @ 2pm in person
in the Emmeline Suite at the Pankhurst Institute\, or virtually via Tea
ms\, for the next in our series showcasing the creative methods FBMH sta
ff have been applying Generative AI to their teaching. For our November
talk we look forward to welcoming:\n\nDr Grazyna Lipowska-Bhalla: Senior
Lecturer in Cancer Biology\, Programme Director for the MSc Molecular P
athology of Cancer\, Assessment Lead in the School of Medical Sciences.
Her talk will explore how GenAI can be meaningfully embedded within auth
entic assessment to move students beyond passive prompting towards criti
cal\, discipline-informed engagement. She will demonstrate how GenAI-sup
ported assessment can enhance authenticity\, make student thinking more
visible\, and develop critical AI literacy alongside disciplinary unders
tanding. The talk will argue that GenAI can support rather than replace
learning by creating opportunities for students to practise the judgemen
t\, reasoning and responsibility increasingly required in AI-mediated pr
ofessional contexts.\n\nDr Cesare Giulio Ardito: Senior Lecturer\, depar
tment of Mathematics: His scholarship interests include the use of artif
icial intelligence in mathematics education\, particularly its implicati
ons for teaching\, learning and assessment. He has experimented with int
egrating generative AI into teaching and assessment practices and has pu
blished work reflecting on these experiences. Generative AI presents opp
ortunities to improve teaching and learning\, but it puts into question
the very skills we are trying to develop. Where do we draw the line betw
een using AI to support learning and using it to bypass learning? Drawin
g on my experiences of experimenting with AI in mathematics teaching and
assessment\, I will explore this very thin line\, discuss what has work
ed (and what hasn't)\, and reflect on how we might make more informed de
cisions in these uncertain times.\n\nDetails: In person at the Emmeline
Suite @ The Pankhurst Institute or via Teams link\n\nJoin: Microsoft Tea
