old in the Global Recruitment of Nepali Global Security Workforce\n\nAma
nda Chisholm (Newcastle University) \n\nAbstract: This paper is a femini
st political economy exploration into the role militarised households pl
ay in broader global recruitment of Nepali workforces in private securit
 y. In this paper I argue that Nepalese security contractors are not only
desirable in the global security industry because of their martial race
histories—forged through over 200 years of military service on behalf o
f the British empire\, but also because of uneven economic geographies a
nd the seemingly unfettered support the families take on to sustain exis
ting security labour practices. Building upon the emerging work within c
ritical military studies on the military household\, and drawing upon et
hnographic work with security contractor wives throughout Nepal\, this p
aper demonstrates the everyday activities wives do from making important
financial decisions to teaching their children to know and love their f
athers. I thusly highlight the entanglements of militarism and global ca
pitalism in shaping the security migrant family home and demonstrate the
patriarch and militarised bargains these women are compelled to make.
