In our next Breast Cancer Now-sponsored Seminar Series of Manchester Breast Centre, we will have Dr Zuzana Koledova from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.
The title and the abstract of her talk is:
Fibroblasts and fibroblast growth factor signalling in mammary gland development
Fundamental physiological functions of many organs, including mammary glands, are dependent on three-dimensional (3D) architecture and organisation of epithelial sheets into complex branched structures. The branched structure of mammary epithelial ducts is formed by the process of branching morphogenesis, which takes place predominantly postnatally, during puberty. Further branching occurs with each estrous cycle and pregnancy. In my lab, we investigate the mechanisms that regulate mammary branching morphogenesis because these mechanisms are often deregulated in breast cancer. Our main goal is to understand the roles of mammary fibroblasts and fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signalling in mammary gland development. We use advanced 3D culture models combined with imaging techniques to decipher the mechanisms of mammary branched pattern formation.
