DESCRIPTION:Autism is a disorder that is much in the news and has a high 
 interest for developmental scientists and non-specialists and public ali
 ke.\n\nProfessor Catherine Lord who is coming to present this lecture is
  a world authority on autism. She has designed some of the key measures 
 int he field and has contributed both to the basic developmental science
  of the disorder and treatment initiatives. She is a very engaging speak
 er who is used to talking to specialist and nonspecialist audiences. \n\
 nHer talk will cover some of the most interesting current research int t
 o autism both in terms of longitudinal studies of its development and re
 cent studies of intervention. \n\nThe lecture will be relevant to member
 s of University staff and students who are interested in child developme
 nt\, child disorders and autism. \n\nProfessor Lord's visit is hosted by
  Professor Jonathan Green\, Child Psychiatrist and specialist in autism 
 research from the University's Institute of Brai\, Behaviour and Mental 
 Health\, and Royal Manchester Children's Hosiptal. Her visit is part of 
 a European wide initiative including Manchester\, funded by the European
  Union\, to promote autism research and intervention across Europe. Prio
 r to this lecture she will have taken part in a European training school
  in some key instruments for the field organised by professor Green.
