Host: Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences

About the event:

The Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester has an outstanding track record in developing early-career researchers. Situated in purpose-built facilities, we host nearly 40 principal investigators of national and international repute spanning both the clinical and basic sciences. Our postgraduate provision continues to expand, and in 2015 we are inviting applications from outstanding individuals seeking to develop their skills within the fields of cardiovascular disease and therapy. Postgraduate study opportunities include our innovative Masters by Research (MRes) in Cardiovascular Health and Disease, our 4-Year British Heart Foundation and Doctoral Training Program PhDs and our MPhil/MD/PhD programs. Fully funded studentships for our 4-Year PhD training are available. Additionally, funding for 3 year programmes may be applied for. Further details of Postgraduate Study in Cardiovascular Sciences can be found on our Postgraduate website.

To introduce the postgraduate training opportunities available during 2015 we are hosting an open event within the group on Wednesday 29th October 2014. The event will provide an opportunity to experience our research facilities, meet existing postgraduates and academics and discover whether postgraduate training within the cardiovascular sciences is for you. The event will be hosted within the Core Technology Facility, on our University Oxford Road Campus (building 86 on the campus map).

Schedule:

  • 2:00pm Research Areas and Postgraduate Opportunities – Jaqui Ohanian PGR Director
  • 2:10pm MRes Program – Ashraf Kitmitto Program Director MRes in Cardiovascular Health and Disease
  • 2:20pm British Heart Foundation 4-Year PhD – Elly Cartwright Program Director
  • 2:30pm Poster presentations, opportunity to meet potential supervisors and tours of the facility
  • 4:00pm Close

If you have aspirations to develop a career in cardiovascular research or simply want to discover whether postgraduate training in this area is for you then the open day provides the ideal opportunity to find out more.
