DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Borel and Harish-Chandra's reduction theory for ari
thmetic groups constructs of fundamental sets for arithmetic group actio
ns\, extending the classical reduction theory of quadratic forms. I wil
l explain a quantitative version of this theory (joint work with Daw)\,
giving polynomial bounds for the translations needed to construct fundam
ental sets for a conjugacy class of subgroups of a fixed reductive group
\, even though the shape of the fundamental sets varies dramatically thr
ough the conjugacy class. This has applications to the Zilber-Pink conj
ecture.
