DESCRIPTION:This FutureDAMS webinar will explore the political economy of
  electricity generation in the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democrat
 ic Front’s (EPRDF) Ethiopia. In 1991\, Ethiopia had extremely limited el
 ectricity generation capacity and one of the lowest electrification rate
 s in the world. By 2019\, after the 27 years of EPRDF rule\, installed e
 lectric power and grid connectivity had increased ten-fold. What were th
 e particular politico-economic conditions that enabled these successes\,
  but also contributed to significant limitations in the energy sector?  
 \n \nTom Lavers\, Biruk Terrefe and Fana Gebresenbet will be presenting 
 their latest research\, which highlights the importance of power relatio
 ns between politicians and the bureaucracy\, the political interests of 
 the ruling party and the dominant ideas shaping politics and the electri
 city sector.
