DESCRIPTION:In this presentation Professor Marlene Laruelle (George Washi
 ngton University) will discuss the rise of Russian ethnonationalism as f
 ramed by the so-called 'national-democrat' movement and in particular th
 e blogger and opposition figure Alexei Navalny. She will explore the gro
 wing interrelation emerging between Russian ethnonationalism and anti-Pu
 tin's regime statements\, and the mobilizing potential of this new polit
 ical combination. She will investigate how a rising identification with 
 Europe and an increased influence for European patterns of framing natio
 nal identity around xenophobia is influencing the Russian political land
 scape.\n
