Political Violence and Assassinations The University of Manchester - 08/05/2014

Inspired by two major anniversaries - the fiftieth anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, and the hundredth anniversary of the Sarajevo assassinations – the Cultures of Politics research cluster is delighted to be hosting an afternoon of events designed to explore the phenomenon of political assassinations and political violence more broadly. We will first be hosting a round-table discussion featuring Professor Dick Geary (The University of Nottingham), Professor Peter Ling (The University of Nottingham), Dr Henry Miller (The University of Manchester) and Dr Emmanuel-Pierre Guittet (The University of Manchester). By hearing from speakers with interests in a variety of nations, regions, and time periods as well as welcoming contributions from our audience, we hope to provoke a lively discussion that considers the causes and impacts of political violence from a range of perspectives. This will be followed by a public lecture by Professor Ling, exploring the Kennedy assassination and its political legacy.
