The Humanities New Academics Programme is opening up this workshop to all Academic staff in Humanities.
Facilitator: Christopher Grave, Infrastructure and Directorate of IT Services, IT Services
This interactive workshop will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore the computational shared facilities in Manchester.
This module is of interest to those whose research is computationally demanding and would like to understand how to access Manchester’s in house computational shared facilities.
The session will start with an introduction to the range of facilities available and highlight relevant considerations in choosing the facilities most appropriate for a given project. There will also be discussion of the access levels available to Humanities researchers, and opportunities to improve access through research funding.
Under the guidance of Research IT, attendees will then have the opportunity to work through practical exercises, allowing them to develop their technical know-how related to accessing, navigating and deploying jobs on these facilities. The facilitators of the session will be on hand to offer practical help and advice, as well as to discuss participant-specific needs.
The workshop is aimed at research active colleagues, and is intended to support those who need to:
- develop their understanding of how the computational shared facilities can benefit their research,
- develop the technical know-how required to access various facilities
- understand base-line levels of access for Humanities researchers and opportunities to improve access through costings in funded research project.
The workshop will also be useful to colleagues who, though not using the computational shared facilities themselves, are supervising PGR students and wish to develop their understanding of the available access in order to better advise and supervise their students.
