We would like to invite you to our next online metallurgy seminar hosted by Advanced Metallic System CDT on the 18th of December, 16.00-17.00. We are pleased to have Prof. Sid Pathak from the Iowa State University (IA, USA).
Prof. Pathak did his PhD at Drexel University, PA, USA and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, NM, USA. He recently moved with his group from the University of Nevada, Reno to the Iowa State University, where he works as an assistant professor in materials science and engineering. His research interests include nano-mechanics, materials under extreme environments, evolution linkages between processing and microstructure, solidification in micro-gravity and more.
The talk gives a general overview of spherical nanoindentation as a method of measuring tensile properties of materials without the need to extract samples from the material. The technique is especially useful in situations where extracting samples is either difficult or impossible, such as when studying welds or irradiation damage. As usual, after the speech, there will be a short Q&A session. Hope you will enjoy it!
