 lah.\n\n---\n\nABOUT\n\nThe Humanitarian & Conflict Response Institute (
HCRI) invites you to an event to watch the award-winning documentary ‘Su
dan\, Remember Us’ written and directed by Hind Meddeb (synopsis below)\
, and join a discussion with Hamid Khalafallah who will connect the 2019
revolution to the current situation in Sudan. Hamid is a Sudanese resea
rcher and policy analyst\, and currently a PhD candidate at the Universi
ty of Manchester.\n\nThis event is free and public. We welcome everyone
in and out of the University: members of the University\, staff and stud
ents\, and of the community of Manchester.\n\nHamid Khalafallah is a res
earcher\, policy analyst and development practitioner. He is currently a
PhD researcher at the Global Development Institute (GDI) of the Univers
ity of Manchester\, researching grassroots movements and political trans
itions in Africa. Before that\, Hamid worked for various international o
rganisations in Sudan\, focusing on governance and development issues.\n
\nFILM SYNOPOSIS\n\nIn 2019\, documentary filmmaker Hind Meddab flew to
Sudan to film a sit-in protest at the Army headquarters in Khartoum. The
people of Sudan were assembling\, demanding reform after decades of mil
itary dictatorship. There she met a selection of young activists that sh
e would continue to film over the course of 4 years\, from the swell of
hope and accomplishment following dictator Omar al-Bashir’s fall to the
oppression of the military crackdown and subsequent civil war\, which to
 day\, leaves Sudan in ruins.\n\nStanding in front of a powerful army\, h
ow could the civilian movement find the strength to persist? In conversa
tions\, in demonstrations\, on walls\, it emerges how the Sudanese tradi
tion for poetry becomes a powerful tool for activism. Art\, music and po
etry bolster every stage of the Sudanese fight for freedom. ‘Sudan\, Rem
ember Us’ bears witness to a lost revolution and within it unearths a tr
ibute to the power of creativity as a tool of survival and resistance.\n
