DESCRIPTION:Researchers often have to collect data and build datasets the
 mselves. Web scraping allows researchers to access and collect structure
 d web data on publicly available web pages in an automated way rather th
 an time-consuming manual copying and pasting. This session demonstrates 
 how to use the 'Web Scraper' Chrome browser extension to perform basic w
 eb scraping on the Manchester City Council website to simultaneously ret
 rieve news articles from multiple pages\, images and other attributes. A
 ttendees are invited to practice the steps themselves as the workshop pr
 oceeds and ask questions throughout.\n\nThis free workshop is open to al
 l participants with access to a Chrome browser with the 'Web Scraper' br
 owser extension installed. Participants do not need prior experience wit
 h 'Web Scraper'\, with any other web-scraping methods\, or with writing 
 code.
