DESCRIPTION:China's art scene is one of the largest and most prolific in 
 the world. This talk outlines the development of art in China in the pas
 t ten years. The discussion will include the cultural environment in Chi
 na and its rapid expansion\, the diversity of art practice and key theme
 s in artists' works in relation to huge social and economic changes in C
 hina. In the past decade\, the dramatic rise of teh art market in China 
 has also led to major Western auction houses setting up in China. The ta
 lk will attempt to raise some questions about China’s positioning within
  the international art world and the particular challenges it currently 
 faces.
