  characteristics of scabies \n\nAbstract:  Scabies is a contagious skin 
 disease caused by the infestation of the skin by the Sarcopes scabiei mi
 te\, resulting in an itchy rash. Scabies affects over 400 million people
  worldwide each year. A rise in scabies cases has been observed in recen
 t years throughout Western Europe. Despite the high prevalence of scabie
 s in parts of the world and increasing scabies cases across Europe\, som
 e key epidemiological characteristics describing the spread of scabies i
 nfections have not been described\, such as the serial interval – the ti
 me between symptom onset in an infector and symptom onset in an infectee
  – and the reproduction number –  the average number of people an infect
 ed person will go on to infect.\n\nAccurate estimates of the epidemiolog
 ical characteristics describing the spread of scabies are essential for 
 designing effective control strategies to curb disease transmission. In 
 this talk\, I will present work on estimating these key epidemiological 
 characteristics of scabies using various mathematical methods and data s
 ources. Finally\, I will discuss the policy implications of these findin
 gs and how they can inform the design of strategies to prevent future ou
