Michèle Lamont has been a major figure in cultural sociology since the 1980s. This question-and-answer session, chaired by leading sociologist of culture and class, Mike Savage, will explore what Michèle sees as her major contributions to the field; her evaluation of key theoretical perspectives (e.g., the Bourdieusian, pragmatist, and STS traditions), the role of comparative analysis and global perspectives; and methodological challenges and opportunities. After 45 minutes of discussion between Michèle and Mike, there will be ample time for questions from the audience.
