DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to be taking part in the Heritage Open Days
programme on Saturday 8 September 2012.\n\nHeritage Open Days celebrate
England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to
places of historic interest that are not usually accessible to the publi
c.\n\nThrough our Heritage Programme we are offering three guided tours
of our oldest and most architecturally significant buildings. Each tour
is guided by an academic historian to bring to life the University’s his
tory and our place in the city of Manchester.\nTour details and booking
information\n\nThe tour takes in the Old Quadrangle\, the Whitworth Buil
ding (including the Council Chamber and fantastic Whitworth Hall)\, our
original library\, the John Owens Building and a fantastically preserved
Victorian lecture theatre in the Beyer Building.\n\nThe tours will run
on Saturday 8 September at 11am\, 1pm and 3pm. Each tour will begin unde
r the Whitworth Building arch\, which leads to the Old Quadrangle from O
xford Road (number 51 on our campus map). The tour is free and will last
around an hour.\n\nEach of the buildings in the tour is accessible to w
heelchairs\, although the route of the 11am and 1pm tours includes stair
s in areas where no lift is available. The 3pm tour has been altered to
make it fully wheelchair-accessible.\n\nPlaces are limited to 25 per tou
