DESCRIPTION:In her book Mobility Justice (2018) Professor Mimi Sheller re
 ferred to the age of extremes as a triple crisis involving climate disru
 ption\, unsustainable urban mobilities\, and a crisis of racialized bord
 er securitization. This talk updates the question of mobility justice to
 day\, when human mobilities and energy demand exceed every planetary bou
 ndary\, and political boundaries around universal rights of mobility are
  also increasingly being transgressed. In the United States the new Trum
 p administration represents both the retrenchment of fossil fuel and car
 bon capital (alongside exponentially growing energy consumption by digit
 al capital) and the deepening of exclusionary militarized borders\, migr
 ant detention and forced deportation. What is the relation between these
  two reactionary movements? What can we do to pull back from these extre
 mes and galvanize movements for mobility justice? Professor Sheller will
  argue for an alternative mobility imagination that builds a culture of 
 shared space\, low-carbon practices\, mobile commoning\, and respect for
  life.
