 penalty (which was only abolished in France in 1981).\n\nIn this present
 ation at the John Rylands Library\, you will be shown five different edi
 tions of this book\, in French\, English and Hebrew\, published between 
 1829 and 1990. \n\nThe differences on editions\, which will be demonstra
 ted\, will shed light on the influence of historical and social context 
 of this work. Following the presentation there will be a more general di
 scussion about the death penalty in France and in the UK.\n\nA good inte
 rmediate level of French is recommended to be able to participate in the
  discussion.\n
