 st European Studies Research Seminar Series. Our speaker is Kataryna Wol
 czuk from University of Birmingham and her talk is entitled: 'In the cro
 ss-fire of integration: Ukraine\, the EU and Russia'.\n\nKataryna will p
 resent findings from her newly published book (co-authored with Rilka Dr
 agneva) entitled Ukraine Between the EU and Russia: The Integration Chal
 lenge (Palgrave\, 2015).\n\nPlace and Time: Monday\, 7 December 2015\, 4
 .30 - 6.00 pm\, Samuel Alexander Building\, Room A112\n\nAbstract:\nThe 
 Ukrainian crisis has attracted much international attention\, yet little
  is known about how and why the EU and Russia ended up 'competing' over 
 Ukraine. The seminar will focus on the deeper origins of the crisis by a
 dopting a long-term perspective to the 'integration offers' presented to
  Ukraine by Russia and the EU and by highlighting the key role of Ukrain
 e's political regime in interpreting and balancing between the two 'inte
 gration offers'. The seminar will provide an accessible overview of the 
 complex background and multiple dimensions of the crisis\, while also di
 spelling prevailing oversimplifications and misinterpretations.
