 monstrate a new approach to evaluating divisor sums\, such as the varian
 ce of the divisor function over short intervals\, and divisor correlatio
 ns. The approach makes use of additive characters to translate the probl
 em from a number theoretic one to a linear algebraic one involving Hanke
 l matrices. I will briefly discuss extensions to other Diophantine equat
 ions\, as well as indicate further connections between Hankel matrices a
