Can lessons be learned from the recovery of UK regions to the global financial crisis of 2008 when it comes to dealing with the coronavirus pandemic recession? And does recovery from this crisis offer a chance for truly transformational change to deal with the societal problems of societal inequalities?
Our debate will ask whether policy responses to COVID-19 should be directed more at strengthening the resilience of those regions that were least resilient to the 2008 financial crisis, while also taking an in-depth look at whether the government's levelling-up agenda now risks being derailed by the COVID-19 crisis.
