DESCRIPTION:Xiaomeng is interested in the role of TGF? signalling in deve
 lopment and under disease conditions. Her earlier work demonstrated that
  type IV collagen not only function as an affinity matrix for binding an
 d immobilizing TGF? family growth factor\, Decapentaplegic (Dpp)\, but a
 lso regulates its signalling during Drosophila development. Her recent s
 tudy led to the identification of another novel regulator of TGF? signal
 ling\, Leucine rich alpha 2 glycoprotin 1 (Lrg1). This work revealed for
  the first time the function and molecular mechanism of Lrg1 regulated T
 GF? signalling in pathological angiogenesis and raised the intriguing po
 ssibility of targeting Lrg1 as a novel treatment for diseases such as di
 abetic vascular complications\, cancer\, atherosclerosis and rheumatoid 
 arthritis. Both studies have been published in Nature as an article.?
