DESCRIPTION:This talk takes you into my journey with the arts and critica
l intercultural communication education. It investigates the dynamic rel
ationship between creative art-based methods\, teaching practice\, theor
y\, and research to develop a dialectical and dialogical model for (de)p
reparing learners for critical intercultural communication in the real w
orld. There has been a creative body of intercultural research engaging
arts-based methodology\, this research has engaged innovatively and prod
uctively with ongoing and urgent concerns in the field relating to de-es
 sentialising (MacDonald and O’Regan 2013\; Ferri 2018\; MacDonald 2019)\
 ; decolonising (Phipps 2013\, 2019)\; research methodology\, relationshi
 ps and ethics (Holliday and MacDonald 2019\; Bradley and Harvey 2019)\;
and intercultural citizenship education (Gonçalves Matos & Melo-Pfeifer\
 , 2020). \n\nBeing part of this collaborative and creative turn\, I work
ed in the Creating Welcoming Learning Environments AHRC-funded project (
AH/R004781/1) in England with Professor Jane Andrews at the University o
f the West of England in 2017-2019\, we brought together researchers\, c
reative artists\, education consultants and teachers in mainstream schoo
ls to collaborate and reflect on our identities\, responsibilities\, ide
as and practices during a series of art workshops (e.g. collage\, filmma
king\, textile and printing)\, with the goal of developing new activitie
s for use to integrate children and young people and promote multilingua
lism\, inclusion and diversity in schools in England (Andrews and Almoha
mmad\, 2022). \n\nThis event is hybrid. The audience could join via Zoom
