 the University of Manchester\nAbout this event\nWhat is a fair future fo
 r all\, and how can the students of today be a part of making it happen?
 \n\nWe are honoured that recently re-elected Mayor of Greater Manchester
 \, Andy Burnham\, has agreed to address our BA Social Science students\,
  with a talk on what it means to address social inequalities and to purs
 ue fairness in the face of extremely challenging times .\n\nWithin Socia
 l Sciences\, the majority of our modules challenge our students to consi
 der how what they are studying connects to society and the implications 
 this may bring\, including ethically\, socially and environmentally. We 
 know that BASS students are passionate about addressing social inequalit
 ies\, in all forms\, and we hope that this talk will inspire and energis
 e students\, following a particularly challenging academic year!\n\nAndy
 's talk will be followed by a short Q&A session\, where attendees will h
 ave the option to address their questions to the speaker.\n\nWe are also
  delighted that the President and Vice Chancellor of our University\, Da
 me Nancy Rothwell DBE\, will be attending this event to introduce the Ma

 ities).\n\nWhilst this talk has been arranged by Dr Katherine Smith\, th
 e BASS Programme Director\, it is open to all students and staff across 
 the School of Social Sciences. We would also be delighted to welcome bot
 h prospective and former Social Sciences students to join us.\n\nAbout A
 ndy Burnham\n\nAndy Burnham was elected Mayor of Greater Manchester in M
 ay 2017\, and was re-elected for a second term in May 2021.\n\nPrior to 
 being Mayor\, Andy was MP for Leigh from 2001. In Government\, Andy has 
 held Ministerial positions at the Home Office\, Department of Health and
  the Treasury. In 2008 he became Secretary of State for Culture\, Media 
 and Sport\, before returning to Health as Secretary of State in 2009.\n\
 nIn opposition\, Andy has served as Shadow Education Secretary\, Shadow 
 Health Secretary and Shadow Home Secretary.\n\nAndy lives in Leigh\, Gre
 ater Manchester\, with his wife and three children. He is a keen support
