DESCRIPTION:Title: Model theory and Covering maps\n\nAbstract: In this ta
lk\, we will look at the problem of describing the classification theore
tic structure of the sets defined (in DCF) by the differential equations
associated with covering maps as studied by Scanlon. Roughly speaking\,
for our context\, a covering map is a function on a space that is invar
iant under the action of some group and as such\, a function on the quot
ient space. The most studied examples of such maps are those associated
to Shimura varieties (eg. the modular j-function) but we will not restri
ct to that context. After introducing the various objects\, I will surve
y some of the new results in that area and describe some of the key tool
s used in my own work (joint with Blázquez-Sanz\, Casale and Frietag) to
attack this problem. Time-permitting\, I will also explain the connecti
ons of these results to a general Ax-Schanuel type theorems for the cove
 ring maps.
