"If teachers really want to force all education ministers to follow the evidence, there is one thing they can do today: work towards making evidence-based practice the everyday, unarguable routine – starting now." Ben Goldacre, writing in the Guardian March 18 2013
This call is an opportunity for universities to consider how strategically they can support an evidenced based teaching profession and to confirm that an educational model rather than a medical model should be used to take this opportunity forward. The starting point could be the legacy from Stenhouse and the models of teacher research developed by John Elliot. Whether through engaging as academic partners in continuing professional development (CPD) with school alliances or by offering professional practitioner masters programmes, it is a critical time for all stake holders to come together to discuss the way forward. A range of different types of partnerships and strategic alliances across the country are called for to be able to engage with the policy makers so as to support appropriate teaching and learning engagement with pupils. It is intended that during this two-day symposium with colleagues from across the education sector, recommendations will be formulated to offer to the policy makers about the best way forward.
