DESCRIPTION:MRC Come and See are excited to announce our second speaker w
 ithin the series of health talks! \n\nProfessor Thomas Fleming is Emerit
 us Professor of Developmental Biology within Biological Sciences at the 
 University of Southampton\, with an interest in embryo environment\, dev
 elopmental potential and health\, and mechanisms of early mammalian deve
 lopment.\n\nThe MRC DTP at Manchester will be welcoming Professor Flemin
 g to deliver a virtual keynote talk on the 17th March\, covering the imp
 ortance of the period around conception on the future development and li
 fetime health of the next generation.\n\nUsing mostly animal models but 
 with good reference to humans\, the effect of environmental factors befo
 re implantation occurs (such as the quality of maternal nutrition or the
  use of assisted reproductive treatments (ART)) will be considered on th
 e subsequent developmental programme and the risk of chronic disease in 
 later life\, across cardiometabolic and neurological morbidities. This f
 ocus stems from the David Barker concept known as the 'Developmental Ori
 gin of Health and Disease' (DOHaD) and will reflect on the diverse biolo
 gical mechanisms that may underlie the phenomenon.\n\nThe keynote is ope
 n to everybody\, both within and outside the University\, and will take
