IN-PERSON Prof Denggao Long joins the MCI to discuss his new book: “Chinese Civil Society and Spontaneous Order: Native Tradition and Overseas Development”.
From the native to overseas, from traditional to modern, this talk explores the historical development and characteristics of traditional Chinese markets and their micro-entities. It investigates the development and evolution of factor markets and civil order, business management, and non-government organizations under the background of Chinese culture.

Biography: Denggao Long is Professor at the Institute of Economics, School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, where he also chairs the Center for Chinese Entrepreneur Studies (CCES) and the Center for Economic History. Prof Long received his Ph.D. in economic history from Yunnan University in 1993. He has been a visiting scholar at Yale University (2003), Harvard University (2005-2006),and other institutions abroad. He is also a member of Project of Beijing Outstanding Talent in Social Science in the New Century, and an advisor to the Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council.
